By isolating this part of the electromagnetic spectrum, digital cameras and infrared films can capture unique colours and details that would otherwise be invisible. Black skies, purple and gray foliage, and other surreal effects are all possible with these filters.
Due to the nature of infrared photography, the light transmission factor in these filters is not exact, as with a standard neutral density filter, and is extremely variable depending on exposure settings and existing light.
